MONTGOMERY, Ala. —
On Saturday February 4, 2012 the Picayune NJROTC participated in the American Legion/Coca Cola All Service National Championships. Three of the Color Guard teams participated in three different divisions. These divisions included unarmed, facsimile and demilitarized color guard drill.
The Gold Color Guard participated in the unarmed routine and took home a third place win at the All Service National Championships. The Gold Color Guard is commanded by Cadet Devin Hernandez with Cadet Kirk Chatelain as the organizational flag bearer, and Cadets John W Smith and Blaine Deshotel as rifle guards. This is the Gold Color Guards third competition this year having a 3rd place or better finish.
The Pink Color Guard participated in the facsimile routine and ranked sixth in the nation at the All Service National Championships. The Pink Color Guard is commanded by Cadet Kaitlyn Gauthier with Cadet Jazmine Barr as the organizational flag bearer, and Cadets Katelyn Anderson and Taylor Kirkland as rifle guards.
The Blue Color Guard participated in the demilitarized routine and ranked 16th in the nation at the All Service National Championships. The Blue Color Guard is commanded by Cadet Tony Morton with Cadet Jonathan Anderson as the organizational flag bearer, and Cadets Dequan Powell and Ryan Victory as rifle guards.
All three teams did an outstanding job during the competitions. There were 50 different teams from all branches of service competing. Picayune NJROTC brought home the national title for being the best Navy JRTOC team at the national championship.
The Picayune NJROTC Blue and Gold Booster Club will start fundraising on March 3, 2012 by holding a can shake at different areas in Picayune (time and placed to be announced). The proceeds of this fund raiser will help fund the Picayune NJROTC drill teams and shooting team in their travels during the 2012-2013 school year. The NJROTC color guards will be traveling to the most prestigious All Service National Championship in Daytona, Florida, to compete for another national title. The NJROTC shooting teams will travel back to Anniston, Alabama next year to defend their title as the #1 ranked NJROTC shooting team in Area 8 consisting of the 4 state area of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Florida. The shooting team is also ranked 18th in the nation with the Secretary of the Navy Shooting Program.
Picayune NJROTC would like to say thank you to all the parents and supporters of our program. Without your loyalty and dedication these trips would not be possible.
