A less expensive plan should be adopted for Courthouse annex
Editor:
At The public information meeting on March 10, the architectural firm hired by the Board of Supervisors presented a slide show presentation regarding the proposed $15.4 courthouse square annex. The presentation identified an inexcusable lack of maintenance from the previous administrations plus insufficient storage and office space. -
March is IDD month, public needs education
Editor:
In recognition of March as Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Month, I would like to take the opportunity to encourage all Mississippians to learn more about intellectual and developmental disabilities. These terms cover a broad range of often misunderstood characteristics. -
The correct spelling of Benville Baptist Church
Editor:
I really liked the article “The Jesse Josephus Lee Family from 1920”. I am of Lee stock through my Granny, Guynell Bond. I grew up on North Benville Road and was raised in Benville Baptist Church into my early teens. -
ATV law will require helmets, safety course
Editor:
To little fanfare, by 2010 Mississippi had met its five year goal of decreasing highway traffic deaths by 10% two years early. A major part of that decrease was enacting a Primary Seatbelt law in 2006 and the public education campaign about the new law, “Click It or Ticket.” -
November 3 message was loud and clear, but Obama refuses to listen
Editor:
President Obama knows the message November 3 said, but he is not deterred from implementing his agenda through agencies and bureaucratic appointees. The name czar for some of these appointees does not fit in with the lexicon of American liberties. I canot fathom why there is a constitutional right of agencies and unelected officials to have the power of Congress. If this is not challenged, nullified, and stopped our liberties will vanish and the execution will wield totalitarian control over our lives. -
How can anyone treat an animal like garbage
Editor:
I want to know who and why?
Who are you that could just throw a cat away like trash? Then the cat comes to me through the woods begging for something to eat. I start feeding it my leftovers. Then I start thinking — how could anyone do this? -
No intimidation in Patrick Lee statement
I think that Patrick Lee said what had to be said! If someone comes in waving a gun, they will be met with the same. He is not trying to prevent any of us from expressing our opinions, contrary to what Wilbur Tucker says or thinks.

Supervisor Lee’s remarks inappropriate under circumstances
Editor:
As America mourns the tragic events in Tucson, Arizona, two themes are emerging in the national conversation: the toxic level of discourse which is occuring in our politics, and the question of whether it is time to reconsider the gun laws which made it possible for the perpetrator to walk into a store and purchase a magazine extender for his Glock pistol, something he could not have legally done if Congress under the Bush administration had not allowed the assault weapons ban to expire. -

Editor:
All Mississippians, with an appreciation for our state’s rich history, should discover the lifetime and literary works of H. Grady Howell, Jr., a well respected, professional, Mississippi Historian, employed with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. -
Diabetes Foundation of MS to host Super Conference
Editor:
Diabetes in Mississippi is an epidemic. Current estimates look like this: 351,000 Mississippians with diabetes; only 234,000 have been officially diagnosed. That leaves 117,000 people — a full third of the total — who have diabetes but do not yet know it. - More Letters Headlines
