PICAYUNE — Editor: I had a nightmare that I was in the middle of a presidential election.

In my nightmare one candidate was accused of being a foreigner and a Muslim.

In my nightmare one candidate was accused of belonging to a cult and being a vulture capitalist.

In my nightmare everyone could vote, but only the votes of Ohio residents counted.

In my nightmare wealthy persons and corporations could spend as much as they wanted to because money is not a bribe.

In my nightmare corporations can speak because they are “people”.

In my nightmare the “big lie” was a routine campaign tactic; even if the lies were refuted, they were repeated endlessly.

In my nightmare voters were assumed to be stupid.

In my nightmare election officials tried to discourage voting by working people by closing the polls early.

In my nightmare messages on huge billboards threatened minority voters.

In my nightmare a little girl is brought to tears because of the vicious campaign tactics she saw and heard.

In my nightmare some employers tried to influence their workers’ vote by intimidation.

Maybe I will awaken and find I am in the USA and none of it is true; it was only a nightmare.
