AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile has the capacity to benefit consumers across Mississippi. This combination can assist consumers in many ways, from improving service quality and network capacity, fostering innovation, and increasing competitive pressure to ensuring that consumers throughout our country and across Mississippi have broader access to mobile broadband.

Consumers and businesses that used to access Internet information from their desktop computers are now downloading it on the go. Consumer demand for mobile broadband is outpacing our supply of data capacity. The AT&T and T-Mobile combination will add more capacity and create a much more service-enhancing network. That means more room for growth, fewer dropped and blocked calls, and a faster, more reliable mobile Internet experience here in Mississippi.

Combining these networks will also allow the company to expand its deployment of advanced 4G Long Term Evolution and means the combined company can deliver mobile broadband to more rural and smaller communities across Mississippi.

By bringing 4G LTE to more rural communities and small towns in Mississippi, we can give businesses in these locations the same powerful tools enjoyed by those located in major cities and more densely populated areas.

Rural access to the Internet will revolutionize e-health, allowing doctors to have one-on-one access to patients in remote areas without requiring patients to travel for an in-office consultation. Additionally, our children will have more opportunities to learn through online education programs and the many resources available with expanded Internet access.

AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile will allow us to close the digital divide between urban areas and rural communities in Mississippi by providing mobile Internet to more areas which means more benefits in education, health care and economic creation and job growth for these communities.

Butler Now contract raises questions
Dear Editor:
The new contract with Butler Snow creates many unanswered questions. First, after pleading poverty before and during the budget hearings, why is it necessary to spend over $450,000 dollars to hire a firm to do what we already pay the supervisors to do? It’s obvious that the taxpayer was the least considered party to this one-sided contract. Once again, the supervisors have validated one of the 5 characteristics of government. “The few who pay taxes are simply a source of revenue to fund the socialist policies of politicians and their politically connected cronies.”

Was the reverse 911 used to warn county residents about the flooding danger. I experienced this first hand at 2:30 a.m. while bringing my wife to work in Picayune. I started to investigate and get the word out to media outlets and the only one to pick up on this was WGNO TV in NOLA.
