PICAYUNE —
Editor;
Gene Lyons is a master of inneundo and obfuscation as illustrated in his column in the August 30th Item. He starts off by intimating that Mitt Romney lies a lot and then cites 2 probable lies and 1 direct accusation of lying. That’s a total of 3.
He takes great pains to assert that Romney may have included state, local, sales, excise and real estate taxes in his “meager” 13% minimum. I seriously doubt that, but what if he did, it still wouldn’t be a lie. He also questions whether Romney took advantage of a 2009 one-time amnesty on certain taxes. Again, was Romney lying? No!!! Gene’s one direct accusation of lying concerns the $700+ billion taken from Medicare to fund Obamacare --- a fact even the Obama Administration admits to. Mr. Lyons even tacitly admits the truth, but later unequivacally states that “It’s a lie so craven and demagogic you’d think that even Mitt Romney would be embarrased”.
The score:
Romney - 0 lies
Lyons - 1 lie and 2 non-provable accusations
