Why are telemarketers with a personal agenda exempt from the “No Call List”?

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — Editor,

Why are telemarketers with a personal agenda exempt from the “No Call List”?

I’m on the Mississippi ‘no call list’.

My family and I sat down to dinner last night at 7 p.m. (Oct. 17). At 7:10 p.m., we received a telephone call from a fast-talking, pro-life ‘Christian’ group saying they were call 33,000 Mississippians at the same time and that we were all in a live “town hall meeting” and, if we stayed on the line, we could ask questions. Of course, it turned out to be a pre-recorded call. My dinner got cold while I tried to figure out who was calling and to discover a way to delete my number from their calling list.

In short, I listened to an hour of propaganda encouraging me to vote for Amendment #26 in November. Via my telephone, these people are reaching into my private home—not only to solicit money, but to influence my vote through hate, fear and misrepresentations. They used hate language calling Planned Parenthood “murderers”. They tried to create fear by implying that we need this amendment to prevent human/animal hybrids. They used political name-dropping. Amendment #26 will not get my vote. Neither will the few supporting politicians. I could never support any bill promoted by an organization rude enough to create such a shady, intrusive telephone call. Nor will I ever vote for any politician who doesn’t understand the separation of Church and State or campaigns with a personal agenda and they should not be exempted from the ‘No Call List’.

Imagine how enraged these same people would be if their children received daily pre-recorded calls from other groups with very different opinions and a very different agenda. Don’t call me!

    Dear editor,
    U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo's recent vote against funding to pay flood insurance claims of Sandy victims should provoke embarrassment and disgust in Mississippians irrespective of individual politics.

    Never in the history of our nation has a president been reelected who has caused 23 million unemployed, 6 trillion of debt and a certainty that his policies will continue on steroids. Economics 101 would refute these policies. He told his followers to “vote for revenge.”

  • Butler Now contract raises questions

    Dear Editor:
    The new contract with Butler Snow creates many unanswered questions. First, after pleading poverty before and during the budget hearings, why is it necessary to spend over $450,000 dollars to hire a firm to do what we already pay the supervisors to do? It’s obvious that the taxpayer was the least considered party to this one-sided contract. Once again, the supervisors have validated one of the 5 characteristics of government. “The few who pay taxes are simply a source of revenue to fund the socialist policies of politicians and their politically connected cronies.”

    Editor;
    I had long feared that Obama would be reelected to a 2nd term due to his policies that inordinately benefitted and increased the size of the dependency class -— who would then overwhelmingly vote for him.

    Gene Lyons is a master of inneundo and obfuscation as illustrated in his column in the August 30th Item. He starts off by intimating that Mitt Romney lies a lot and then cites 2 probable lies and 1 direct accusation of lying. That’s a total of 3.

    Editor:
    Was the reverse 911 used to warn county residents about the flooding danger. I experienced this first hand at 2:30 a.m. while bringing my wife to work in Picayune. I started to investigate and get the word out to media outlets and the only one to pick up on this was WGNO TV in NOLA.
