Nostalgia— it’s a wistful or sentimental longing for places, things, acquaintances, or conditions belonging to the past. It’s a longing for home.
It is the perfect word to describe the beautiful 4800 sq ft home of Richard and Christian Burge. Sitting atop a hill overlooking several ponds and the homes of their family, it is a haven for the Burge family.
This home is New Orleans inspired with vintage Old Saint Louis brick and a sprawling porch with large columns. The gas lanterns certainly urge you to walk through the french doors into a cozy atmosphere. With an inviting foyer splashed with art and color, it certainly says that you have not walked into an ordinary house. The grand living room has 18 foot ceilings with an enormous fireplace that inspires you to take a seat, put your feet up and relax in the wintertime.
Just out the back door you will find a beautiful pool with your focus being drawn to the outdoor fireplace and sitting area. This spot has been a lazy day dream on many occasions filled with friends and family enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
Back inside, step into the kitchen with high ceilings, exposed industrial duct work, beaded wooden ceilings and beautiful brick walls. No detail has been spared in this space. Just to the left, you will find a cozy little nook for a dining room with large windows to take in the view.
Mrs. Burge has been a photographer in Picayune for many years so adding to the whimsy of the home you will find antique cameras scattered throughout, leaving you to wonder whose photos have been taken with them decades earlier.
The Burge home has 4 bedrooms, all of which ooze with personal style and has 3 1/2 baths. It also has a cinema room upstairs. This home has been a canvas in which Mr. and Mrs. Burge have displayed their creativity and love of both old and new and have married the two seamlessly. In the master bedroom you will find tall ceilings as well with a large hand carved wooden bed. It’s a massive room but gives a sense of restfulness with the milk chocolate colored walls and a beautiful fireplace. Just off the back of their bedroom you will also find a private courtyard.
Their children, Aleea, Trey and Shawna have all made their rooms a space that truly reflects their personalities. This home has a little something for everyone and is a must see on the tour.
