PICAYUNE —
The Mayor’s Youth Council has kicked off the new school year with an enthusiastic group of young people as members.
The group is conducted as a city council would be and blends leadership training with an understanding of the mechanics of Civic leadership, via hands on experience. They will be attending Council meetings and will be recognized.
The students meet bi- weekly to discuss goals and implementation of policies. The students do so in the presence of community leaders that serve as advisors. These advisors allow the students retain steering of the council as they lend their expertise.
The advisors for this council are: Mayor Pinero, Chief Luke, Kris Landrum, Capt. Theresa Milar, Ginger Bennett , Lt. LaMar Thompson, Lt. Bonnie Cousin, S.R.O. Brian Goetzmann, Stephanie Turner, and Darlene House.
The newly elected officers are: President— Taletha Odom; Vice President— Hannah Travis; Secretary— Ronita Wynn; Treasurer— Caitlin Cruthird; and Public Relations/Photographer— Alexis Smith.
The group is discussing a possible trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with our Senators and Congressmen.
