The Picayune Item

PICAYUNE — An encore presentation of “Elephant’s Graveyard” will be performed at Picayune District Auditorium on Tuesday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m. by Picayune Memorial High School High Tide Productions. The performance is free, but donations will be accepted. It is a tale of the tragic collision of a hard-working circus and a tiny Tenn. town. Set in 1916, “Elephant’s Graveyard” combines both fact and legend as the only known lynching of an elephant as recalled by the members of both groups. The production combines both facts and legend in its exploration of human nature’s deeply entrenched craving for violence, spectacle and revenge. The recent play, written by George Brant in 2008, is being described as a “theatrical masterpiece” and “deeply moving.”
