PICAYUNE —
The deadline for the Civic Woman’s Club (CWC) 2012 Christmas Parade entries is Friday, November 23rd. Entry forms are available at The greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce, Melinda’s Fine Gifts and Handy’s Cleaners.
This will be the CWC’s 52nd Annual Christmas Parade and the theme is “A Patriotic Christmas” in honor of the local National Guard Unit which is currently deployed to Afghanistan. Some of the soldier’s families will represent them near the front of the parade.
The Parade will be at 6 p.m., traveling west on Goodyear Boulevard, south of Highway 11, west on Bruce Street, north on Main Street, and then west on West Canal Street to Kirkwood Street, crossing Goodyear Boulevard before disbanding on Fifth Avenue at the high school stadium parking lot.
Candy and favors will not be thrown until the parade reaches Norwood Street, so viewers are asked to start gathering at Norwood and then east on Goodyear.
Cindy Murchison will be this year’s Grand Marshall. She is a retired teacher and volunteer. She is also a member of the CWC and was named Clubwoman of the year for 2012, for her many hours of service to her club and community.
Co chairs, Nancy Griffin and Sandy Houston, have sent to special invitations to city officials, judges, bands and dance teams to the line-up order. They have also met with city and police officials to fine tune the event. Many hours of volunteer work is required to assure the success of the annual Christmas Parade that attracts thousands of viewers and participants.
