Capt. Carven Scott relieved Capt. Edmund Cataldo as commanding officer of the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Reserve Activity (NMORA) Headquarters Unit 0282 in a traditional change of command and retirement ceremony at Stennis Space Center.
Rear Adm. Jonathan White, commander of the Stennis-based Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, and retired Capt. Jeff Bacon spoke at the ceremony.
NMORA Headquarters Unit 0282 serves as headquarters for and directs the activities of the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography reserve forces.
Cataldo, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a Massachusetts native, retired as the Navy’s senior Reserve Meteorology and Oceanography officer after 11 years on active duty service and 19 years in the Naval Reserve. He received the Meritorious Service Medal. He is the Program Manager for Persistent Surveillance & Detection Programs at Raytheon in his civilian job.
Scott, a graduate of Texas A&M University, has served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in addition to serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He transferred to the Navy reserve in 1985 and affiliated with NMORA in 1995. Scott, who was a prior enlisted in the Army, has 31 years of total service. He is Chief of the Alaska Region Environmental and Scientific Services Division with the National Weather Service in his civilian job.
The highly skilled professionals of the Navy Meteorology and Oceanography Reserve Program (NMORP) provide augmentation and specialized expertise to the Naval Oceanography enterprise. The NMORP has operational units throughout the continental United States and Hawaii, working alongside active component shipmates in providing reach-back, exercise and forward deployed support to war-fighters in fleet operations/strike group support; aviation and maritime weather; anti-submarine warfare; mine warfare; naval special warfare; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance

NASA awards contract for procurement services
