POPLARVILLE —
Dylan Favre, the nephew of NFL MVP Brett Favre, will be a member of the Pearl River Community College football team this season.
Favre was in uniform and a part of the Meet the Wildcats ceremony Thursday night at Dobie Holden Stadium on the campus of PRCC. He is expected to be PRCC's starting quarterback this season.
Favre, a Mississippi State transfer, was temporarily suspended from the Wildcat team two months ago, when he was arrested on drug charges by the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department.
Favre had been practicing with PRCC in pre-season camp. He led St. Stanislaus to the 2009 MHSAA Class 4A state championship title, as he set Mississippi high school records with 63 touchdown passes and 5,511 passing yards while playing for the Rock-A-Chaws that season.
Hatten was unavailable for comment at press time. A press release from PRCC late Thursday afternoon confirmed that Favre was set to be a part of the team this season.
The Wildcats begin the season Thursday on the road at defending JuCo National Champion East Mississippi.

Pope Benedict VXI resigning
VATICAN CITY (AP) — With a few words in Latin, Pope Benedict VXI did Monday what no pope has done in more than half a millennium, announcing his resignation and sending the already troubled Catholic Church scrambling to replace the leader of its 1 billion followers by Easter.
Not even his closest associates had advance word of the news, a bombshell that he dropped during a routine morning meeting of Vatican cardinals. With no clear favorites to succeed him, another surprise likely awaits when the cardinals elect Benedict’s successor next month.
“Without doubt this is a historic moment,” said Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, a protege and former theology student of Benedict’s who is considered a papal contender. “Right now, 1.2 billion Catholics the world over are holding their breath.” -
