DeWitt arrested

HANCOCK COUNTY — Sheriff Ricky Adam announced today that LESLIE DANIELLE DEWITT, 31 years of age, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Hancock County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).  DEWITT is suspected of violations of Mississippi Code regarding (3) counts of Sexual Battery where she was in a position of trust or authority over the child victim who was a sixteen (16) year old female.  These suspected violations occurring in Hancock County.  DEWITT is a former educator/coach at various Gulf Coast public schools. DeWitt was previously the head girls basketball coach at Pearl River Central High School. She resigned suddenly six weeks ago.

The HCSO is urging anyone who has any information regarding this investigation to contact the HCSO CID office at (228) 466-6910 or HCSO Central Dispatch at (228) 255-9191.  This investigation is being conducted by Investigator John Luther, Assistant Commander, HCSO CID.

  • Former PRC basketball coach arrested in Pearl River County

    Former head girl's basketball coach for Pearl River Central High School, Leslie Danielle DeWitt, was arrested today on a Justice Court warrant for child molestation, Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said.     A manhunt is underway as U.S. Marshals search for two fugitives out of Tennessee wanted on charges of aggravated burglary and resisting arrest.
    U.S. Marshals went to a vacant residence on Pea Ridge Road on Wednesday that was believed to house the two fugitives.

    VATICAN CITY (AP) — With a few words in Latin, Pope Benedict VXI did Monday what no pope has done in more than half a millennium, announcing his resignation and sending the already troubled Catholic Church scrambling to replace the leader of its 1 billion followers by Easter.
    Not even his closest associates had advance word of the news, a bombshell that he dropped during a routine morning meeting of Vatican cardinals. With no clear favorites to succeed him, another surprise likely awaits when the cardinals elect Benedict’s successor next month.
    “Without doubt this is a historic moment,” said Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, a protege and former theology student of Benedict’s who is considered a papal contender. “Right now, 1.2 billion Catholics the world over are holding their breath.”
