PICAYUNE — Hurricane Issac has drastically altered this week's prep football schedule.

Neither Picayune nor Pearl River Central will play this week in the aftermath of the storm.

Picayune was scheduled to host Forrest County AHS Friday night in a match-up of unbeaten and ranked teams.

Both sides mutually agreed Thursday afternoon to call the game off due to playing conditions. Picayune is slated for an open date next week also.

Pearl River Central was slated to travel to New Augusta to take on Perry Central tonight, but PCHS officials decided Wednesday night to cancel the game after the playing field was drenched with rain for several days in the aftermath of the storm.

The decision means that the Blue Devils will have two straight weeks off after a season opening 41-7 win over Hancock. PRC had a scheduled open date last week.

The Blue Devils will now enjoy three straight home games, hopefully, as they are scheduled to host Grace King and Thomas Jefferson, both from New Orleans, the next two weeks before beginning Region 4-5A play against arch-rival and defending Class 5A state champion Picayune.

Poplarville, which has lost two straight games to open the season, was supposed to have faced Enterprise-Clarke on the road tonight, but a decision on that game is expected some time today. In all likelihood the game would not be played tonight, but perhaps could take place on Saturday. The Hornets travel to Pass Christian next week.

George County will try to get in its home game with Greene County at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gill-Martin Stadium in Lucedale.

Other games that have been canceled and will not be made up are Pascagoula at St. Martin, Biloxi at Gautier, Ocean Springs at Moss Point and Vancleave at D'Iberville.

Also, the Harrison Central-Stone, Vancleave-D'Iberville and West Harrison-Bay High games are also cancelled, according to Harrison County Athletics Director Mike Gavin.

Gulfport, Hancock, East Central, Long Beach have open dates.
