Above, work crews on Thursday were demolishing old buildings that used to house the Pearl River County school district superintendent’s and administrative offices in Carriere. School offices are now located in metal buildings on the north end of the PRC Carriere campus. Several officials have pointed out that state law requires supervisors to provide PRC administrative staff with facilities, which it used to do, since PRC is the county school district. At right, Supervisor Sandy Kane Smith several months ago called for closing two rest areas on I-59 near Picayune, and the board of supervisors sent MDOT a letter requesting it. Last week, MDOT closed them.
