SPECIAL OLYMPICS

The Picayune Kiwanis Club-sponsored Special Olympics was held at Picayune Memorial High School. Patterned on the World Olympics, the event included an opening ceremony and parade of athletes, above, foot races, wheelchair races, assisted walks, standing and running long jumps, 50- and 100-meter dashes, softball and tennis ball throws. It drew competitors from throughout the county and required many volunteers for it’s success. All competitors left the event a winner.
