Getting out of the cold — John Watts measures a section of pipe insulation to see if two of them would cover pipes for his pool as Phillips Hardware employee Joe Papillon looks on.. The National Weather Service is calling for single digit temperatures Thursday night with the wind chill factor and temperatures in the low teens Friday and Saturday nights. Residents are advised to take precautions in this extreme cold weather insulating exposed water pipes, bringing in pets, and ensuring livestock have adequate cover from the wind and cold such as in a barn or stall or in a wooded field where trees can insulate them from the wind and cold. Residents should also check on any person they know who is elderly or may have money problems and may not have adequate heating for the cold days ahead. Phillips Hardware owner Jerry Matthews said that business has been so brisk the last couple of days with people buying pipe and faucet insulation and heat tape that he had re-order many of the items.
