Supervisor vows to stop animal abuse in county

SURVIVING DOG — Roscoe, the only surviving dog of six that were found dead or dying behind a former gas station in McNeill off of U.S. Highway 11, looks to Picayune SPCA employee Chris Phelps for some loving Wednesday afternoon. SPCA vice president Judy Wheaton said Roscoe has gained about 10 pounds in the past week with the feeding schedule he has been on to help restore him to good condition. Roscoe, whose owner has been charged with six counts of animal cruelty, will be kept at the shelter until the courts decide whether owner Alicia Goynes can have custody of the dog returned to her.
