The Chinese ambrosia beetle threatens the redbay and sassafras trees in the forest of the Southeast. It was first trapped at Port Wentworth, Ga., in 2002, and spread to South Carolina and Florida, and then to Jackson and Harrison counties in Mississippi and Marengo and Mobile counties in Alabama.
