A Medicare and Social Security Town Hall meeting will take place Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 3 p.m.
The event will take place at the Senior Center of South Pearl River County, located at 45 El Patch Parkway, Picayune.
Attendees will learn about changes to Social Security for 2018, Medicare options available to them and engage in a “Medicare 101” session, Greg Craven from Elite-Care Agency said.
“Many senior citizens in our community are not aware of the many options that are available to them when it comes to Medicare and Medicaid, so our goal is to educate them on such topics,” Craven said.
Some of the topics that will be covered at the meeting will include Medicare Advantage Health Plans, Medicare supplement plans, dental and vision plans and Social Security.
The event is being sponsored by Dr. James Riser from Riser Medical, Picayune Health Clinic (Rural Health), Humana, a health insurance company and Elite Care Agency. Representatives from those sponsors will provide help and answers about Medicare and Social Security. Craven said his office has hosted Medicare town hall meetings in other parts of Mississippi for about five years, and have seen a positive impact to senior citizens in those communities.
“Sometimes, senior citizens sign up for insurance without knowing all the details or if that’s the best available plan for them,” Craven said. “Not everyone can sign up for the same insurance plan because everyone has different needs and our goal is to help them find that plan that best suits their needs.”
