Kevin Costner, who is better known for his acting talent, will be making a stop in Poplarville next week to display his musical talent.
Kevin Costner and Modern West, a country rock band, are set to perform at the Ethel Holden Brownstone Center for the Arts at Pearl River Community college on Aug. 26, according to a press release from PRCC.
“That’s a pretty big deal to pull people into the county and Poplarville,” Director of the Brownstone Center Kyle Hill said. “It’s bringing a lot of people to campus,” including visitors from Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and Texas, Hill said.
This will be Costner’s only performance in Mississippi for his current southeastern tour, the release states.
The center is within 200 tickets of being sold out, Hill said.
Tickets are $50 for floor seating and $40 for balcony seating, the release states.
According to the release, tickets to the performance can also be purchased in the season ticket package, which includes 16 performances for $150, and the “pick three for $100” package.
According to the band’s website, the group consists of lead singer Kevin Costner; songwriter and guitarist John Coinman; lead guitarist and producer Teddy Morgan; drummer Larry Cobb; vocalist and guitarist Park Chisolm; and Roddy Chong, Bobby Yang and Luke Bulla on fiddles.
Costner pursued his musical career after being pushed by his wife to connect with his fans on a more personal level, Hill said.
The group has been performing for about four or five years, said Hill.
Many ticket buyers have said they are more interested in the event because they had no idea Costner could sing, Hill said.
