The Blue Devils ruined the homecoming festivities for the Moss Point Tigers thanks to a 52-6 drubbing. The Devil defense accounted for four turnovers and constantly harassed the Moss Point backfield.

Pearl River Central moved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in region 4-5A play with the win, while Moss Point fell to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in league play. It was the first time PRC ever played  a game in Moss Point’s Dantzler Stadium.

“I was a  little surprised (at the dominance) because we had faced a lot of adversity this week,” PRC head coach Eric Collins said.”We challenged out guys to focus and come here this week to overcome that adversity. We were totally dominant on the defensive side of the ball and they set us up with good field position the whole time early, and then the game got away from (Moss Point”

The game didn’t take long to get away from the Tigers as the Devils recovered a fumble on the first offensive play of the game. Two plays later, running  back Garrett Duplechain scored from 11 yards out for a 7-0 lead. The Tigers were forced to punt on the next two possessions, the latter of which resulted in a long drive which ended with a three-yard score from Desmond Mitchel.

The first Devil drive of the second quarter ended in a punt, which was muffed and recovered by a bevy of Blue Devils. The Devils then added a 44-yard field goal from Jason Detto  to go up 17-0. The following drive saw a 24-yard pass from Dylan Spiers  to Daniel Rosine to put PRC up 24-0 at the half.

Duplechain and Desmond Mitchel each added another touchdown within the first six minutes of the third quarter, as did the defense. With the score now 38-0, Brandon Padgett stripped the Tiger signal caller and returned the ball 22 yards to increase the Devil lead to 45-0. Terek Whitehead added the final Devil score from 19 yards out midway through the fourth quarter. The Tigers finally found the end zone thanks to a stellar catch and run from Demetrius Morrissette with 20 seconds remaining to make the final 52-6.

“As much as we wanted the shutout…but That’s okay,” Collins concluded. “We’ll take it  and I’m very proud of our guys. We’ll enjoy this one and will be ready for next week”
