Lathan Byron Long

Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at New Palestine Baptist Church for Lathan Byron Long, 31, of Carriere, who passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010 in Picayune.

Burial will be in Carriere Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

The Rev. Philip Chaples will officiate at the service.

A native of Carriere, he was a Construction Foreman with Wallace C. Drennan, Inc. of New Orleans, La. and a member of First Baptist Church of Poplarville. Byron served honorably in Iraq as an elite member of US Army Engineer Explosives Detection K-9 Unit. He was an active member of the Mississippi Army National Guard. Byron was also a proud member and outstanding player with the Poplarville High School football, basketball, and baseball teams. He was a PRCC Wildcat cheerleader.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Glenda Sue Smith Fendley.

Survivors include: his mother, Sherrie Strain Sibley and husband, Mike of Carriere; his father, William Byron Fendley Sr. and wife, Susan of Picayune, and Dr. Richard Long and wife, Stephanie of Mandeville, La.; his daughters, Kalie Long and Katelyn Long, both of Poplarville; his sisters, Laken Elizabeth Long of Carriere, Hanna Fendley Rodriguez of Picayune; grandparents, Grady L. Strain Sr. of Carriere, William Gerald Fendley of Picayune, and Dana Gayle Strain of Carriere; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home.
